"BIZNES meble.pl" international 1/2018

design X interview 68 BIZNES meble.pl [ international edition 1/2018 f is normalized, we return to the start- ing point. What is worse, there are only few cases in which designers are in- vited to cooperate in a situation where the producer would like to implement a product that intrigued him. There are also many competitions organized to involve as many designers as possible, without the necessity to sign contracts, only to obtain satisfying models. My point is that there are many producers who simply do not use the services of designers, because they founded com- panies themselves, they created these companies by themselves, they achieved market success, and therefore it is dif- ficult for them to accept the decisions of other people and let designers in such sensitive zones. The example of Ryszard Balcerkiewicz seems to prove something completely opposite. Well, that may be true but there is only one Ryszard Balcerkiewicz. Only one. Unfortunately, there are not many so aware producers who appreciate the role of designers, but it is also a fact that Noti and Balma employ top designers, those who have a reputation on the mar- ket, and their image is to some extent a guarantee of sales. Walking around the trade fair, it can be seen that many companies are opting for commercial solutions, such as for office furniture, which is sold completely differently due to the nature of orders. Furnishing the entire office with space of several hun- dred or several thousand m 2 , depend- ing on whether it is one floor or several floors, is completely different than the sale of several chairs or several sofas. The truth is that the market verifies the possibility of this cooperation, which is why companies are looking for different solutions and one of them is reaching out to mass customers. These are con- tracts that bring specific benefits for the company, but also shape the way of de- signing and new trends on the furniture market. How important is now the multi func- tionality of furniture? And also how important it will be in the future? Considering the fact that living space is getting smaller and smaller due to the growing number of people in the world, I believe that furniture of variable pur- pose for small living spaces is furniture of the future. And there is question of mobility, which is characteristic for nomadism, people open to challenges, desirable or unwanted changes. I hope that multi-functionality will become standard understandable and desired by top producers in Poland over time. Supposedly the ‘Tango’ project is a concept from the period of studies, but only a few years ago the favourable conditions appeared, the technology above all, that enabled its implementa- tion. To be precise, ‘Tango’ poufs were born before the Milan exhibition, but I was working on the concept during Information on PKO S.A. Directions signs at Lech BrowaryWielkopolski.
