"BIZNES meble.pl" international 1/2018

events X design international edition 1/2018 [ BIZNES meble.pl 71 Exhibition ‘Projektowanie – kulisy’ (‘Designing – back- stage’) is a story about conditions and constraints that determine the ultimate form of the products on the market, as well as about design, as a field closely rela- ted to industry. For the first time in Poland the designer decided to show sketches, models and 3D prints, ren- ders, foamed models, raw foam and welded frames. Krystian Kowalski and Stefan Bieńkowski wanted to draw attention to the importance of working with ma- terials and prototypes during designing, and how a re- sponsible cooperation between designer and investor should look like. KrystianKowalski (born 1982) is a graduate of the Design Depart- ment at the Royal College of Arts in London and the Faculty of Design at the Academy of Fine Arts inWar- saw. He worked in design studios in Milan,Warsaw and Łódź. In 2009-2013 he co-led Studio Kompott. In 2013, he founded his own design studio, Krystian Kowalski Industrial Design, where he combines 3D modeling with work with material and non-standard problem solving. He worked with such brands as IKEA, Sony, Comforty, Amica, MDD, Noti, Marbet, Style and Koło. The exhibition has shown of how many stages spread over time consists creation of each product. The starting point for crea- tors of the exhibition – Krystian Kowalski, designer and Stefan Bieńkowski, curator – was the assumption that the designer is not only an artist, but also specialist capable of dealing with the pragmatics and eco- nomics of the process, creating objects to be implemented into mass production. ‘Mesh’in the foreground designed for MDD, which in addition to non-standard material also has non-standard form. The ‘Bureau’, designed for IKEA by Krystian Kowalski, Maja Ganszyniec and Paweł Jasiewicz, is intended for small flats. The ‘Nordic’ chair (manu- factured by Noti) was not produced according to the clas- sical design scheme. The ‘Oyster’chair quickly became one of the most recognizable products on the offer of Comforty.
